Based on the characteristics of the various extension spring materials previously discussed, 65Mn carbon spring steel is currently the most widely used and common material for extension springs.
Key Advantages: As a type of carbon steel, it offers good elasticity, sufficient strength, and an affordable price point; it delivers excellent overall cost-performance and is suitable for the vast majority of standard operating conditions.
Typical Applications: Extension springs used in a wide range of consumer and general industrial settings-such as office chair lift mechanisms, standard door lock return mechanisms, small toys, and conventional hardware fittings-predominantly utilize 65Mn steel. Simple surface treatments, such as electroplating or blackening, are sufficient to meet rust-prevention requirements.
Another common mainstream material is 304 stainless steel, which is typically used in applications requiring basic corrosion resistance; however, its overall prevalence and usage volume are far lower than those of 65Mn carbon spring steel.
